Our Activities

Have you thought about getting a little more active in civic life but didn’t know where to start?

We can help! You don’t need to run for office or spend 20 hours a week to make a difference in your community, your state, and your country. Here are just a few of the things that West Hills Women do:

  • Canvass (door knock) for campaigns

  • Textbank and phonebank

  • Distribute candidate literature at polling places

  • Get petition signatures to get folks on the primary ballot

  • Write postcards to voters

  • Help with voter registration drives

  • Educate our friends and neighbors about politics, elections, and candidates

Our Membership

West Hills Women’s Democratic Organization is an inter-generational group of registered Democrats . We have a mission to ENGAGE volunteers in local, state, and federal campaigns; EDUCATE our communities about government structure, candidates, and legislation; and EMPOWER our neighbors to get involved and make their voices heard.

We are governed by a set of by-laws and code of ethics. Our membership year runs from June 1 through May 31, with an elected executive committee and subcommittees for Community Engagement, Education, and Membership.

Learn about us through Facebook and Instagram, come meet us at a public event, or join us as a guest at one of our monthly meetings!

We were featured in the New York Times Sunday magazine for our work on the 2020 election!

"On a Wednesday evening, members of the West Hills Women's Democratic Organization, a group of party volunteers based about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, gathered under a rented park shelter. Michele Knoll, a candidate for state representative, spoke to the group in person while a Biden campaign regional organizer addressed them virtually.

"The group worked until the only light left in the area came from the glow of a laptop. 'We are trying to move ahead and make sure we don't have a repeat of 2016,' Debbie Turici, 66, said. 'It's not just an election. It's about your values, your integrity.'"

“It doesn’t matter how much or how little time you have, or what physical limitations you work with, there are ways to volunteer with us and help your community.”

“If you care, we have something for you to do. ”

“Sometimes you feel like you have no power. This group makes me feel like I am making a difference in my community.”

West Hills Women also attend events together throughout the region, whether it’s meeting Cecile Richards, marching for our rights, or being present for the swearing-in of a new County Councilwoman.
